SAFETY LAB
At Navin Molecular, we believe safety is the key foundation of everything that we do. Our strong safety culture ensures safe and green process executions from development stage to multi ton production while maintaining speed in deliveries to our customers.
Process Safety Excellence
We understand the importance of comprehensive process safety evaluations. That’s why the keystone of Navin Molecule’s culture of safety is an effective process safety management system and strategy. From R&D to commercial production, all processes undergo appropriate level of safety assessments at every stage and multi-layer process controls are established and meticulously implemented to ensure safe and scalable processes.
Guaranteeing Safety
To ensure the appropriate engineering, safety controls and procedures are implemented in our projects, we utilize our leading hazardous facilities to determine the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of all materials involved in a process. Our testing capabilities are supported by world-class regulatory principles and the extensive experience of our process safety engineers, who can help you solve complex process safety and risk management issues.
Our Infrastructure
Our Process Safety Laboratory performs studies aimed at ensuring safe scale-up by evaluating the thermal stability of substances and mixtures, process related heat production and pressure rates and their dependence on time.
The inherent hazards associated in a process are evaluated through:
- ARC (Adiabatic Rate Calorimeter) - to track the heat generated adiabatically and reduce risk during scale up, we generate data such as: onset temperature of exotherm, quantitative heat release, rate of temperature rise, pressure increase, rate of pressure rise, adiabatic temperature change (ΔTad), time to maximum rate (TMR).
- RC (Reaction Calorimeter) - to understand any possible, unintended, side reactions or decompositions by generating data for: reaction enthalpy (ΔHr), reaction kinetics, maximum temperature of synthesis reaction (MTSR), scale-up data (for determining cooling duty), heat accumulation and define Stoessel’s criticality classes of reaction. This study enables us to design safe operating conditions and minimizing process risk.
- Desktop Screening – we also conduct theoretical studies around presence of energetic functional groups, oxygen balance percentage, potential of gas generation, literature references for heat of reaction and adiabatic temperature rise estimation.
- Powder Safety Analysis – performed for all solid intermediate and finished product stages, including data for minimum ignition energy (MIE), impact sensitivity test (Percussion Test), and bulk powder resistivity test.
These studies are extremely important to ensure the safe operation of the process. We also undertake further safety testing to understand shock sensitivity and static discharge potential for all solid products.
