Fluorine and fluorine-related chemistries are vitally important for the development of active compounds and related intermediates for the pharmaceutical industry: around 50% of new molecules in the pharma research and development pipeline utilize fluorination. This is due to the ability of fluorine moieties to enhance pharmacokinetic and physiochemical properties of active ingredients, allowing for more optimized development.
Sulfur tetrafluoride (SF4)
SF4 is a powerful fluorinating agent which can be employed in the deoxyfluorination of alcohol, carbonyl, and carboxylic acid functional groups to produce the corresponding fluoro, difluoro or trifluoro species. Direct fluorination with SF4 offers many advantages over more complex fluorination reagents, as it is relatively atom efficient and more cost effective.
Navin Molecular is the only producer of SF4 in India and one of the few manufacturers with commercial scale capacity outside of China, with a fully vertically integrated supply chain. Handling this toxic, corrosive and reactive gas requires specialist capabilities and we have the experience and ability to utilize SF4 safely and efficiently from gram scale research to commercial scale and under cGMP.
